After revisiting this book for the first time in more than 10 years, I can say that it still fondly has a place in my heart.

This book was the very first that made me love reading, and I remember tearing through the series at school while all the other kids played at recess.

Although written for children, the first thing that pops out at me is the humor. The book is undeniably funny. Paired with the charm of our narrator Lemony Snicket, I can confidently say that I smiled and snickered the whole way through.

The book is clearly not meant for adults, so I wouldn’t necessarily recommend an adult read it. But it covers topics that many children’s books shy away from in a way that children can understand and learn from. Revisiting it all these years later was a positive experience.
