‘Unsouled’ by Will Wight | Book Review

This book review was part of a podcast discussion.
Listen to the episode here.

Unsouled follows Wei Shi Lindon who according to his clan cannot follow a Path and become a Sacred artist. In the world of Cradle strength and honor is everything. I had trouble figuring out a pitch for the book so I asked the folks over at r/Iteration110Cradle for some help. Here is my favorite: “A young hobo beats up children, steals everything that is not nailed down and makes a run for it to another country”.

This book is kinda slow in the beginning and you will probably hate most every character, because they are trash human beings, but around the fourth of the way through the book things turn out not what they seem to be. After that point I was hooked and listened to the other 6 books over the course of 8 days. This series kinda reminds me of the anime Hunter x Hunter with the friends progressively getting more and more powerful. I will say this book is not for everyone it is progressive fantasy which tends to be more about the power ups and fun fight scenes then powerful and moving literature but it is a great popcorn series if you can move past its flaws.

I am new podcaster who has been enjoying the fantasy genre for many, many… many years. I will read most any fantasy book but high and steampunk are my favorite subgenres.
